Overview
Lake Atitlán and its villages are a winning combination of scenic beauty, a relaxed atmosphere, easily accessible Mayan culture, and a good tourist infrastructure. Atitlán Lake is situated at an altitude of 1,560 meters and the top of Tolimán volcano, which is the highest volcano in the area is 3,158 metres.
Panajachel is the best known of the villages around the lake, and a transport hub for the whole lake, boat transportation (6am to 7:20pm) to San Pedro La Laguna (Q25pp), San Juan La Laguna (Q25pp), San Marcos La Laguna (Q25pp), Santa Cruz La Laguna, Santiago Atitlán, San Lucas Tolimán, most transport options arrive/depart to/from Panajachel to Lake Atitlán different destinations.
